US Mobile Coverage: All You Need to Know Before You Sign Up

U.S. Mobile is an MVNO that operates on Verizon and T-Mobile’s networks, providing fast data, impressive data allocation, and a hotspot for its customers. In addition, U.S. Mobile has many plans at different price points with different data allowances—there is something for everyone! U.S. Mobile utilizes both Verizon’s and T-Mobile’s networks, and they have crafted their plans to utilize the fastest network in the area and switch between them when necessary. But how good is their coverage, really? Let’s find out. 

US Mobile Coverage

US Mobile leverages both Verizon and T-Mobile to provide near-national coverage. As an MVNO, US Mobile does not have a network of its own; instead, it rents bandwidth from other networks to give to its customers. That means you get almost the same coverage and data speeds that the major provider customers do at a fraction of the price. As an MVNO, US Mobile users have less stable data speeds and don’t have unlimited high-speed data. Let’s break it down. 

Verizon’s Nationwide Networks

Verizon has three active networks. 

• 4G LTE Network: Verizon's 4G LTE network is widely regarded as one of the largest and most reliable networks in the country. It offers strong coverage and fast speeds for data, voice, and text services.
• 5G Network: Verizon's 5G network has been expanding rapidly across the country. There are two types of 5G networks Verizon operates:some text
  • 5G Nationwide: This network uses dynamic spectrum sharing (DSS) technology, which allows Verizon to use the same spectrum for both 4G LTE and 5G services, providing widespread 5G coverage.
  • 5G Ultra Wideband: This is Verizon's high-speed 5G network that uses mmWave and C-band spectrum. It offers ultra-fast speeds and low latency but has more limited coverage compared to the Nationwide network. It's primarily available in urban areas and specific venues.

T-Mobile’s Nationwide Networks

T-Mobile also has three active networks. 

• 4G LTE Network: T-Mobile's 4G LTE network provides widespread coverage across the country. It offers reliable data, voice, and text services.
• 5G Network: T-Mobile has been expanding its 5G network rapidly and is known for its extensive coverage and high speeds. There are several components to T-Mobile's 5G network:some text
  • 5G Extended Range: This network utilizes the 600 MHz band, providing broad coverage across the country. It offers fast data speeds and improved indoor coverage.
  • 5G Ultra Capacity: This is T-Mobile's high-speed 5G network that uses mid-band spectrum (such as 2.5 GHz) and mmWave spectrum in certain areas. It provides very fast speeds and low latency, mainly in urban and suburban areas.

US Mobile customers access both Verizon and T-Mobile’s networks. This means customers have fantastic data coverage nationwide. US Mobile does come with data deprioritization and data throttling, common among MVNOs. 

High-speed data consumers will love 5G data from US Mobile. With their largest plan offering 100 GB of high-speed data, you can use a ton of data each month before your data is throttled. At this point, 5G networks are established among an impressive selection of major metropolitan areas. If you live in a city, it’s likely you have access to 5G!

US Mobile has great coverage. Customers have the same access to high-speed data as major wireless network customers as long as there is no congestion in their area. Let’s break down how data deprioritization affects US Mobile’s coverage.

Data Deprioritization

As MVNO, US Mobile customers receive data slowdowns whenever there is congestion on the network to ensure that major wireless network customers have high-speed data as long as possible. There are, in general, three tiers of data priority. The three-tier data priority breakdown is as follows: 

• Tier 1 Data has the maximum data speeds at all times. If tier-one data is ever slowed down, it means there are no customers on the network that have access to high-speed data. This may occur at sporting events, concerts, or other large congregations of people
• Tier 2 Data retains maximum speeds after MVNO customers have their data slowed down. This is excellent in all but the most busy occasions where MVNO customers are slowed down but get slowed down before tier-one data is slowed down. This tier of data keeps high speeds in almost all situations, but you may notice slowdowns in bigger cities where there are a lot of residents and commuters. 
• Tier 3 Data, or MVNO data, is always the first tier of data to receive slowdowns. US Mobile utilizes MVNO data and is an excellent way to use Verizon’s network with affordable plan pricing. 

US Mobile users have high-speed data whenever there isn’t congestion in nearby networks. Unfortunately, this is hard to predict. Festivals, concerts, and sporting events are common times when a lot of congestion hits the area. 

At maximum congestion, no one can load anything on their device, but major wireless customers have high-speed data in most instances. If you don’t sign a device or plan contract, users can test US Mobile for a couple of months to gauge how well the service works for them. 

US Mobile Pros and Cons

There are a lot of options for cell phone providers in the United States. It’s important to figure out which one is best for you! To help you out, we’ve compiled a list of pros and cons regarding this provider to help you decide whether US Mobile is right for you. 

PRO — High-Speed Data 

US Mobile is best for high-data users. With the data intensity of so many phone processes, regular mobile data usage will quickly rack up data usage throughout the month. With US Mobile, you can use however much data you want without needing to worry about slowdowns on the horizon. 

We want to highlight this as the best part of this MVNO. There are almost no MVNOs out there that offer this much high-speed data. US Mobile offers plans with 20, 50, and 100 GB of high-speed data, giving users a lot of flexibility on how much data they want each month. 

Most MVNOs offer “unlimited” cell phone plans, which offer a limited amount of high-speed data (4G LTE/5G) and unlimited 2G or 3G data. Using 2G or 3G is unbelievably slow compared to high-speed data speeds. While you will have slow unlimited data when you go over your data cap at US Mobile, 100 GBs provides a lot of data flexibility each month. 

PRO — Phone Selection

U.S. Mobile has a crazy amount of cell phones available at their store. They have feature phones, affordable smartphones, and the latest and greatest. You should check your phone’s compatibility before switching, but it is likely that your device will work just fine! It’s awesome that their store is as populated with devices as it is because you can decide whether or not you want a new, expensive, and fancy phone or an older, more practical model. 

PRO — Price

This is huge. You can get 100 GB of high-speed data at US Mobile for only $50 a month. This amazing price is second to none among MVNOs and much more affordable than major wireless providers. This price is available for single-line accounts; no contract is necessary. 

PRO — Coverage

US Mobile uses both Verizon’s and T-Mobile’s excellent nationwide networks, providing their customers with fantastic coverage in almost every state. This ensures you are covered no matter where you are and where you go. Make sure to check your local coverage maps for information regarding the best cell phone coverage in your area! 

CON — Low Multi-Line Savings

US Mobile provides multi-line savings, but they are not up to snuff with the competition in the MVNO scene. Many MVNOs with multi-line savings provide, give or take, $20 off each line with four lines, whereas US Mobile only offers $10. While this makes their multi-line plans a bit weaker than the competition, they certainly provide enough data and coverage to justify the cost!  

CON — Customer Service
US Mobile’s customer service is not well-reviewed online, with many complaining about circuitous phone calls and difficulty finding solutions to particular problems.  

Customer service with cell phone providers can be, to put it lightly, a pain to deal with. That being said, patience, time, and a bit of luck will get you through most problems you have with your cell phone plan. Alongside that, many people go years without needing to contact customer service on their cell phone provider. 

US Mobile At a Glance

U.S. Mobile is best known for its high-speed data caps and affordable cell phone plans. They truly have something for everyone. What we like is that their highest-data plan provides a gigantic allocation of high-speed data. One of our biggest complaints about some MVNOs is that their highest allocation data plan provides less than 50 GB of data. U.S. Mobile’s Unlimited Premium provides 100 GB of high-speed data. That is perfect for many high-data users. U.S. Mobile has a lot to offer. Deciding on an MVNO is always a challenge, but let’s look at some basic information about U.S. Mobile.

• What sets U.S. Mobile apart? With so many MVNOs, it is important to know what sets U.S. Mobile apart when considering switching wireless providers. Their high data caps set them apart from the competition, offering 10, 50, and 100 GB of high-speed data each month. This high quantity of data is more than most people use each month. 
• What’s the price of U.S. Mobile plans? U.S. Mobile has loads of plans, from a 10 GB plan for $15 a month to a 100 GB plan for $50 a month. They have multi-line savings, data sharing, and low, medium, and high-data plans. 
• What kinds of plans does U.S. Mobile offer? U.S. Mobile has a good number of cell phone plans. US Mobile offers three main kinds of cell phone plans. They have low-data plans at affordable prices, like a 10 GB high-speed data plan for $15 a month, high-data plans like their 100 GB high-speed data plan at $50 a month, and by-the-gig family plans at a great price of $2 per GB. 
• What network does U.S. Mobile use? U.S. Mobile runs on Verizon’s and T-Mobile’s networks. Verizon’s and T-Mobile’s 4G LTE and 5G networks, and, by extension, U.S. Mobile’s network, cover almost all of the continental United States, meaning you’ll get great coverage no matter where you are. 
• Can you bring your own cell phone? Yes! If you have a phone that works for you, you can bring your own device to U.S. Mobile. To bring your device onto U.S. Mobile’s network, you have to check your device’s compatibility, make sure your device is “unlocked,” and order a U.S. Mobile SIM card. 
• Does U.S. Mobile have any stores? U.S. Mobile has no retail locations. Customers with questions can contact 24/7 live customer support on the phone or through a live chat. 

US Mobile vs. Competitors

The market is saturated with wireless providers. It is difficult to narrow it down, but it is important to cross your T’s and dot your I’s before you sign on to a new carrier. It is all too easy to overpay for wireless service when it’s not what you need. U.S. Mobile is a fantastic provider for users who use a lot of data but are okay with an MVNO instead of a major wireless provider. Let’s take a look at how U.S. Mobile holds up against the competition. 

U.S. Mobile vs. Verizon

U.S. Mobile runs on Verizon’s network and provides users with the same fantastic coverage and 5G network that the major wireless provider’s users receive. Verizon customers have no chance of data deprioritization, which can happen for U.S. mobile customers in two ways. If you go over your data allocation, you are completely shut off from mobile data for the remainder of the month. That’s pretty drastic. The other is if you are in an area of high bandwidth usage. If Verizon’s network is strained, all of their MVNO users get their data slowed down. 

Verizon users may have no chance of data deprioritization, but they pay a much steeper price for their service. The main trade-off between these companies is the cost of their service. If you want premium service, go with Verizon. If, however, you are okay with the possibility of slower service with the knowledge that you are saving big, then U.S. Mobile is the move. Their 100 GB plan provides excellent flexibility for high-data users. 

U.S. Mobile vs. Visible Wireless

Visible Wireless is another MVNO that runs on Verizon’s network, and they have truly unlimited plans with no data cap. Visible Wireless’s greatest strength is that its unlimited plan includes unlimited high-speed data. The big downside is that they only have unlimited plans, so their service does not cater to low-data users. U.S. Mobile and Visible Wireless are two of our favorite MVNOs, so we recommend checking out what they bring to the table before deciding on one over the other. 

U.S. Mobile vs. Hello Mobile

U.S. Mobile has a great list of cell phone plans. Their Unlimited Premium plan comes with a huge list of bells and whistles for just $45 a month. U.S. Mobile offers a wide variety of plans from which you can choose, and Hello Mobile offers no-contract service with a lot of flexibility.

There’s a lot to like about US Mobile. Excellent network, high-speed data, and a well-stocked store. US Mobile has great coverage that ensures you have high-speed data just about everywhere in the country. There are, of course, pros and cons, but US Mobile is high on our list of excellent mobile providers.
